Gerardo Roque '14 Recruiting Profile

Since my first Mets game at the age of 6, I knew that baseball was the only thing I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have made my dream of being on the other side of the fence playing the game I love until my heart beat stops into my goal. I realized at a young age that champions aren't made on the field. They are made on 5am runs before school. They are made at 6 hour batting sessions. They are made during countless reps in the gym; during countless laps of the block; during countless hours of note taking and studying for that test you've been so worried about; during that push you go through to break down the wall of physical exhaustion; during those 200 warm up swings off the tee. I learned champions are made OFF the field. A true baseball player understands the game off the field, and puts his future above and ahead of everything else, and understands the sacrifices one has to go through to reach their goal. I do whatever it takes to reach my goal. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, I AM there. Baseball IS me. And I fully understand that without the proper way of life, the proper focus on the right things like school, nutrition, health etc, is all part of the package of being a student-athlete. We are called STUDENT-athletes for a reason. We are not called athletic-students because our PRIMARY job is being an all star in the classroom before being an all star on the field.

I am currently a Senior in Aviation High School in Long Island City, Queens, New York 11101 and it has been the best 4 years of my life. But I understand that the road is far from over, as I still have a long path ahead of me with letters the size of billboards spelling "COLLEGE" . I am graduating in June 2014, and I will have played 1 year of JV Baseball as the team's Captain, and 3 years of Varsity Baseball by that point. i am hardworking and honest to the bone, and if a coach is willing to make an investment in me, I will make him proud in every way possible.
