Personal Statement
My name is Giovanni Marrero and I am currently a 6'0" 185 lbs junior at Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, New York. I will graduate in the spring of 2015 and plan to enter college that fall. I have dedicated myself both in the classroom and on the playing field with the goal of having the opportunity to continue to play baseball in college while receiving the best education possible. To achieve this goal, I have challenged myself academically with advanced and AP classes and have still have maintained a 4.0 GPA. I am currently on track to graduate within the top 5 percent of students in my grade. I plan on taking my SAT and my ACT in my junior year. I am a member of the Spanish Honor Society, and Science Honor Society. I am also the webmaster for my school's Science Honor Society. I also do some community service around my community. I would prefer to attend a large East Coast school with an outstanding engineering curriculum and a competitive baseball program. As well as playing for my high school varsity team, in the summer of 2013 I have played for many teams such as the Orange County Bombers Blue, South Maryland Sting, BVSA Fury, New Jersey Bandits, Newburgh Knights, and Rockland Boulders. This coming fall I will be playing for the Orange County Bombers Blue 18u coached by Joseph Picone. This past spring I was the leader for my high school Varsity team in hits (27), batting average (27-54/.500), singles (22), doubles (5),on base percentage (.582), on base plus slugging (1.175), stolen bases (6), hit streak (still active into next season/11 games), ERA (1.03), and win percentage (1.000). During that season I played 3rd base, 2nd base, pitcher, and DH. This summer I was a starting pitcher, shortstop, 3rd baseman, 2nd baseman, and outfielder for multiple teams. I feel I could compete at the collegiate level as both a position player and pitcher with hard work. Conditioning and strength training will be a big part of my winter although I will still be taking pitching, fielding and hitting lessons to fine tune for the spring season. I appreciate your time and interest and I look forward to any communication with you regarding my status as a student athlete at your school.
