Personal Statement
I'm Max Marienberg and I'm a lefty pitcher. I want to play ball in college and then start for the Yankees. Everyone says that, but I plan on actually doing it. I do whatever it takes to pitch my best. I work out with the Yankees' conditioning coaches at ML Strength in White Plains, NY. With their help I'm getting stronger and my endurance is increasing. I have weekly bull pens with my coach, Rafael Rigueiro. I work hard in school too, maintaining a high B+/A- at Scarsdale High School, one of the most academically competitive High Schools in the country. I like to compete, and I like to win. My two favorite subjects are Math and Mandarin. What sets me apart from other players is part personality, part training. Whether I just struck the side out or if someone just hit a home run off me, no one can tell. I'm poised and focused on the mound. When I put my mind to something, whether its getting stronger and pitching faster (I've increased the speed on my fastball by 7 mph in 3 months during the off season), or learning Mandarin, I give it my all and I never give up. I'm a player who makes friends easily - I'm funny and make the team laugh and stay cool. I'm not the guy who leads the cheers or is the team captain: I'm the one they turn to when the team's losing, the bases are loaded and we need a win. I function well under pressure. I'm calm and quiet, but I'm paying attention to everything that's going on around me. I'm coachable, learn quickly and remember what I'm taught, whether it's Math, Chinese or playing ball.
