My name is Alexander (Xander) Bartholomew and I am a senior at Webster Thomas High School in Webster NY. I'm 17 years old and have been playing baseball ever since I can remember. I've played both 1st and 3rd base throughout my career with some spot work on the mound. When I was really little, my dad and I would spend hours in our back yard playing catch and hitting tennis balls he pitched to me. In Little League, I played on back to back NY District 4 championship teams as an 11 year old in 2008 and and 12 year old 2009. I've played on several travel teams in the Webster/Rochester NY area. I currently train with and play tournament ball for Todd Allford of Elite Performance in East Rochester NY. Our 16u team highlight of the 2013 summer season was placing second in Reading Pennsylvania at the Akadema July 4th Shootout. I continue to work out at Todd's facility throughout the fall and winter in preparation for my senior year with the Thomas Varsity Baseball Team and summer ball next year with Elite Performance.
Academically, I work hard both in the classroom and at home. My grades are good and I've pushed myself throughout the years by taking numerous accelerated and AP classes. I excel in math and physics and am looking for a college program that offers an undergraduate degree in engineering. I'm undecided on which discipline but am leaning heavily in the direction of mechanical or civil. I love playing baseball and I hope to find a college program that fits both my baseball resume as well as my aspirations of becoming an engineer.
Off the field and outside of school I am active within the community. During the summer I work with young children at the Webster Parks and Recreation Program where I organize and conduct sports/wellness activities for the students at a day camp. I am a member of the Rotary Interact Club and I volunteer at FoodLink, a local non-profit organization that collects and donates food to families in need. In the summer of 2013, I was nominated and selected to participate in the NY Boy's State, a leadership action program run by the American Legion and designed to develop civic leadership and pride in American Citizenship. In February of 2014 I will be traveling to Costa Rica with my AP Biology class to experience the culture, natural surroundings and participate in a service project for the local community.
