Thomas Edison once said, “There is no substitute for hard work.” This is a truth that I learned in my youth, and hard work has brought me to where I am in life today. As a child, I watched my mother struggle to make ends meet. She worked hard and taught me to do the same. In my childhood and teenage years, I went through a period of reflection, where I looked into possible careers where I could combine career success with doing the public good. Fortunately, I have reached the conclusion that through playing of baseball, I could realize all of my professional and personal dreams. When I was thirteen, my mom remarried, and I not only gained a great step-dad, but my own personal baseball coach with a history of a great baseball career. I started seriously playing baseball when I was sixteen. My step-dad has motivated me and been a great inspiration to make me the hardnosed competitor I am today. I always play the game in first gear with the intention of winning. My motivation is intrinsic, in that, at all times I am ready to play. I always feel bad when the team and I do not do well in the game. It is with this feeling that I always want to work hard in achieving the best for the team. Thinking while on the field has remained my greatest attribute. This has enabled me to take an extra base and want the ball hit to me on defense. I further want to be at bat in crucial situations. With this, I have shown great results and improvement in the game. I keep studying and like to talk and watch the game. This is an attribute that always makes me play the game in the present as I am never afraid of statistics and the consequences. With this attitude, I have kept improving tremendously. I love playing and have a passion for the game. My body language is always positive and confident. I always wear the uniform with respect and always remain a leader on the field. Further, I never walk on the field, I always run. I look forward to going to college, working hard in school and playing baseball. Furthermore, I dream of getting drafted to the major leagues.
