Personal Statement

I'm the starting varsity SS and RHP for Canby High in Canby, Oregon (class 2018) which is just outside of Portland, Oregon. They're in the 6A Three Rivers Conference which is the top high school baseball conference in Oregon.

I also play SS for Mound Time Baseball Club's college prospect team in Hillsboro, Oregon and MIF and RHP for the Idaho Baseball Academy's tournament team in Boise, Idaho.

I have recognition and connections with some of the top baseball coaches in Oregon and Idaho. In addition to my high school and college prospect teams, I also train with a private batting and position coach as well as a speed and agility trainer.

I'm confident that my past and present coaches will tell you that I create few errors that can drag a team down. I'd like to play for a college team that emphasizes a strong infield defense that does not easily tolerate errors. You may contact me at 503.806.0121 or by email at [email protected].

In the end, Canby Cougars JV won the offensive battle 18-8 in six innings. The teams totaled 27 hits, including five extra base hits in the game. Canby Cougars JV beat Crescent Valley thanks to 18 hits, including three extra base hits. Canby Cougars JV scored six runs in the sixth on a passed ball, a two-run single by Alec Hopkins, a two-run single by Tro, and an RBI single by Tanner Newrones.   • Alec Hopkins, Canby High Varsity Baseball and class 2018; MIF, RHP, and utility player, just came back from a Creighton University college baseball prospect camp in Omaha, Nebraska. Alec also visited with the Associate Dean of the Business College, met with the admissions office, had campus tours including the dorms, and visited with a Catholic Priest who affirmed Creighton's Jesuit traditions and call to service. From the visit with the baseball coaching staff, it was very obvious that Creighton has a strong infielder program that demands low fielding errors. This was a great choice for Alec and fits well with his athletic record and personal goals. At the camp, Alec demonstrated great batting and fielding skills and we were grateful for the praise we received from even other parents. Alec has more schools to visit in the next two years, but this was a great start! Thank you Creighton.

  • COLLEGE OF IDAHO BASEBALL SIGNS PORTLAND AREA HIGH SCHOOL SHORTSTOP, ALEC HOPKINS Hopkins, Class 2018, ventures back to his family’s strong roots in Idaho to play college baseball CALDWELL, Idaho – February 15, 2018 – High school senior, Alec Hopkins, (6-2, 185 pounds) playing for Canby High School, near Portland, Oregon, signed a formal Athletic Letter of Intent to play baseball for the College of Idaho starting the spring season of 2019. Although several schools made formal offers, Hopkins chose the College of Idaho for its historic high-quality education known throughout the Northwest and for the school’s long record of outstanding athletic programs. Hopkins was also impressed by the College of Idaho’s competitive baseball conference and schedule that includes the University of British Columbia and reigning Avista NAIA World Series champion Lewis-Clark State College. At the school, Hopkins will major in business with a focus on entrepreneurship. Hopkins is a right-handed hitter and shortstop known for soft hand fielding technique and few errors. For his high school team, he's also a starting pitcher. Notably, in the closing weeks of last season, Hopkins pitched a hard fought battle against Tigard High School in Oregon surrendering just one run while recording 18 outs with only 47 pitches in a 1 hour, 9 minute game. Canby High School, is a 6A school in the Portland area and part of the Three Rivers Conference, one of Oregon’s most competitive high school baseball conferences. For club baseball, Hopkins is attached to the Mound Time Baseball Club in the Portland area contributing to numerous wins and championships as their starting, lead shortstop and pitcher. In addition, for the last two years, Hopkins has also played for the Idaho Baseball Academy tournament team based in Meridian, Idaho and has trained with the Idaho Cubs baseball organization as well. Hopkins’ father is a State Farm Agent in the Portland area and a graduate of both Capital High School in Boise, Idaho and Boise State University. His mother is a Senior Financial Analyst for State Farm Insurance Companies based in Tigard, Oregon.

  • Camp staff will include coaches, players and scouts from the Chicago Cubs and other Major League Organizations; as well as NCAA, NAIA and Junior College coaches. Not only will you hear the staff speak in all areas of the game, you will learn the fundamentals and skills needed to play at the next level through drills, repetition and game situations. You will also learn the importance of establishing a routine, the value of preparation, having a plan and the ability to make in-game adjustments.
