Hi my name is Logan Sneed and I will be graduating from Germantown Academy in June 2014. I played Junior Varsity my freshmen year and was on Varsity my sophomore and Junior year. Freshmen year I got off to a great start getting on base 17 out of my first 18 plate appearances, as we dominated our league. Sophomore year I saw a lot of innings as a starting varsity pitcher going 5-2 with a 2.95 ERA. This year as a Junior I've continued to pitch while starting every game in the infield. With a lot of our infielders also being pitchers I was able to play a range of positions this year including shortstop, third and second base. I think my versatility as a ballplayer is an asset to my team, allowing them to have the best players on the field at all times. With losing twelve seniors last year, I have really stepped up and have become a leader of my team. I hope that by leading with my actions I'll be able to be a captain next year as a senior.
I've also played competitive summer ball since I was 12, always competing for a State Title. When I was 15, the summer leading into my sophomore year, my team was able to Win the Babe Ruth State Tournament for Pennsylvania. We also won the Mid- Atlantic Regionals, and continued all the way to the championship of the Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, New York. We finished 2nd in the country that year, and I received the Golden Glove Award for outstanding defense in the infield. Last summer I was able to compete against top competition, playing with the Diamond Jacks out of the Diamond Nation Program in Flemington, New Jersey. We were a 16u team playing against mostly 17 and 18 year old teams the whole summer, which allowed me to get used to the faster paced and tougher competition. We went down to Marietta, Georgia last summer to compete in the WWBA 16u National Championship, and to Fort Meyers, Florida last fall to compete in the WWBA underclassmen championship.
I believe my best attribute as a baseball player is getting on base and making things happen with aggressive base running. I do anything I need to get on base, and put my team in a position to win. Whether it is laying down a bunt for a base hit, taking one in the back, or smacking a liner over shortstop, I will find a way to get on. I earned a .305 batting average my junior year with a .440 on base percentage. Once I get on I use my speed to take extra bases, and try to get into scoring position.
My mental toughness is also an attribute to my game. I never let striking out, or making an error effect my next at bat or ground ball hit to me. I take the same aggressive approach to every situation, no matter the previous outcome. I also take pride in always having a great attitude when on the field. Whether we are down by ten, tied, or up by ten I maintain a good attitude. This year hasn't been the best for my high school team, losing 6 division-1 athletes, but I continue to maintain a positive perspective on things because I know the team feeds off of what I do.
I have competed my whole life in baseball, and would like to continue my career in college. I believe I could bring the skills, leadership qualities, and enthusiasm that can add to a competitive team. Being able to compete for a starting spot is important for me, as I want to be able to contribute to program as much as I can, but I understand that my role as a player might be limited freshmen year. I also seek a mathematics or engineering degree, so a college with good academics is also very important. Baseball is my absolute love in life, and I want to be part of a program whose passion is as great as mine.
