Personal Statement
My name is Justin Shilling and I have been playing baseball since I was six years old. I played on local teams through the age of eleven. When I was twelve, I played on two travel teams. One team was put together specifically to participate in a week long tournament in Cooperstown, NY. The other team was a 14U travel team. From twelve years of age on, I played baseball on travel teams. Through those teams, I've gained lots of experience playing in competitive tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. I usually hit 3rd or 4th in the line-up and typically played in the positions of catcher or third base. One of my strengths is being a leader. I share my knowledge with other players and always encourage fellow players.Coaches look to me to keep our team motivated. It has only been recently that I have decided to go to college. I am working hard on bringing up my GPA and I'm working with the high school catching coach. The skills I am learning from him are making me a better catcher. I've taken classes with several professional baseball players in the areas of catching, hitting and pitching, I hope to be able to play baseball at the college level while continuing my education.
