Personal Statement
Playing baseball in college has been a dream of mine ever since I picked up a a baseball. I stated playing in 2008 and our first season we won the championship. I was playing soccer on the side, but shortly after that I quit soccer because I fell in love with the game of baseball. I've pushed myself through workouts and practices almost every single day. Everyday during the warm months I am doing something related to baseball every day, and every other day in the winter. It has come to be a lifestyle. I am ready to take the challenge of playing baseball at the collegiate level. I am willing to put in the time and work to do whatever it takes to make myself a better player on and off the field.
It's not just about baseball though, when they say college baseball, it means student-athlete. School always comes first and always will. In the future I want to aspire to be a meteorologist. I've enjoyed looking at the weather since I was six years old. It, along with playing college baseball, has always been my dream. Working hard on the field but working even harder in the classroom to boost myself to that level. Hard work pays off in the long run.
I have also been involved in some charity work. I've been vollunteering with the Unite For Her foundation that has been helping women with breast cancer get the proper treatments to help them through the healing process. My school played a pink game last spring, and we all got our pink laces for our cleats. When this event was brought up my mom told me that her friend was going through a battle with breast cancer and without even thinking I asked for her initials to put on my laces. D.C.N. This was and still is on the laces of my baseball cleats. For a year now I've played in her honor. You'll be happy to know that she is now cured and is doing well. The picture of her initials on my cleats hung on the outside of her hospital door after her surgery. She said she was amazed that someone that had never met her would do such a thing and she also said that it made her feel like she wasn't alone in her fight. I got together with her and my mom for dinner one night and she was so grateful. After all of this I vollunteered at the Unite For Her Pink Invitational, which is a gymnastics event in Philadelphia, takes place on a long weekend and over $150,000 was raised for this charity.
This all got me to start thinking, so I put a plan in place and over the next year my plan is to raise $5,000 and donate it to Unite For Her in my moms friend's name. I have been planning this and a week or so ago I thought up a plan to make this my senior project. I want to continue to work with this organization that I am already so involved in.
I want to have a great influence on people, helping whenever I can. With my hard work ethic on and off the field, and also with my goals ahead of me, I will be working the hardest I possibly can over the next year to reach my goals as I look to my future in college.
