My goal is to play baseball in college. This goal is a top priority for a few reasons. The first reason is that I want to continue my education and earn a college degree. I would also like to earn an athletic scholarship. My last reason is that I love the game and thrive in the competitive, team atmosphere that the sport of baseball provides. The combination of my individual skill set with the trust I have in my teammates is unlike any other sport I have played. It is difficult to isolate a favorite moment on the field...Being a fielding element of a double play, striking out a strong player that is 3 years older than me, and hitting a home run would be some of my top choices. Having so many favorite moments is part of the reason I want to continue to play. I am ready to play as well as I can for as long as I can and possibly pursue a career in baseball down the road.
My name is Carter Stonecipher and I am a 180 pound, 6'3" sophomore from Rapid City, SD. I play first base, outfield, and am a right-handed pitcher for the American Legion Post 320 Stars and the Black Hills Rangers travel team. I have been playing baseball for as long as I can remember. I was part of the ND/SD District Champion team from Timberline Little League in 2013, playing in the Little League Midwest Region Tournament in Indianapolis, IN. In 2014 I played at the Pony level, hitting 13 home runs for the season. This summer, as a league-age 14-year-old, I played for the Post 320 JV team. Throughout the 2015 season, I was also asked to pitch for the Varsity team on several occasions.
Baseball is a huge part of not only my life, but also my entire family's. My dad pitched at the collegiate level for the University of Texas at Arlington. My uncle pitched for the University of Kansas and was drafted by the San Francisco Giants organization. My grandfather has also been coaching pitchers at the Legion level for the past 20 years.
I am open to playing baseball at any level after high school and am committed to giving 110% to any college program that will give me a chance.
