Austin Verplank '11 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6'6" / 190 lb. right handed pitcher from Flower Mound, Texas. I have started on Varsity at Marcus HS(5-A) for 2 years. A closer/PO my Jr. year, I can also play OF/1B. I led my team in batting average Freshman year @ .422. I was a starting pitcher this year with average velocity of 88-91 mph. My high velocity is 93, which is verifiable. My ball moves a lot! I am currently training build up my core even more to help add velocity. Last year, I pitched and earned a win in a key game against the #1 ranked team in the state to lead my team to victory in the playoffs. I have a 3.45 average weighted GPA with my AP classes as I chose to take a more challenging set of courses.  I am very goal-oriented and a leader on my team. My team has had had 3 different head coaches in my 4 years.  I am a very versatile, good athlete overall with great speed. I played basketball my Freshman year and varsity golf my Freshman/Sophomore year. I was quarterback in middle school. I am looking for an institution where I can find the right balance between the classroom and the field. I would like to pursue a degree in business, civil engineering or pre-law at a university with great academics and athletics. I am willing to put in the work to get to the next level in both academics and athletics. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an immediate impact on the team. I am open to all opportunities, although I like the warmer climate in Texas, the southern states, and the state where I was born, California.  I will be at Perfect Game Showcase in Houston, TX on June 4-5.
