Personal Statement
My name is Cameron Gregory. I am 20 years old and a 2013 graduate of Ross S. Sterling High school in Baytown, Texas. I lettered in varsity baseball all four years in high school and held down a starting position on the varsity since my freshman season at two different High School's. My freshman and sophomore seasons I played for Baytown Christian Academy in Baytown, Texas where we won back to back T-CAL State Championships in 2010 and 2011 competing in the class 3A private school Division. We also won the NCSAA National Championship in 2010 in addition to our State Championship. I started the majority of my time at BCA playing first base but also played in the outfield and as a pitcher. My head coach at BCA was Kade Johnson who played professionly in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Coach Johnson taught me how to respect the game and play it the right way. After my sophomore season at BCA I transfered to Baytown Sterling for my junior season in 2012 and became the starting first baseman before moving to left field out of what was in the best interest of our team at the time. We finished in third place in District 225A and made the playoffs after a three year absence. My batting avg. in district was .390. And I was selected 2nd team all district as an outfielder. My senior season of 2013 I was moved back to first base and became one of only two players in the district that were selected unanimously by all the coaches in district 225A to receive 1st team All Dristrct 225A baseball honors. My head coach at Sterling High School was Coach Paul Tadlock, he has been the head coach at Sterling for 18 seasons. Coach Tadlock has taught me the value of being consistant day in and day out, to continue to work hard and has inspired me every day by his commitment to me and my teamates. In four seasons of High School varsity baseball I have never batted under .330. I have been playing year round baseball since I was 7 yrs. old. After graduation from high school I suffered a significant knee injury playing in a summer showcase baseball tournament and had to have surgery followed by extensive rehab. My time away from baseball while recovering from my knee has taught me to never take this game for granted as it could all be over in an instant. All I thought about while injured was how much I love playing baseball and I am motivated more than ever to continue to play the game I love for as long as I can. I am completely recovered now and played for Houston Baptist University's Coach Russell Stocktons summer college team the Houston Saints this past summer and batted third while starting in center field. I led our team with a .444 batting avg over 22 games. In past summers I played for the Texas Rawlings Trappers, we traveled to Omaha, Neb. and played in the Battle of Omaha at the CWS. As a member of the Rawlings Trappers I also played in the Perfect Game in Merieta, Ga. I also played for The Texas Sports Development 18u team coached by Joe Rhoden in the Fall of 2012. In seven fall tournaments I batted clean-up and posted a .512 batting avg. I made two Houston 5A baseball all tournament teams 10/6/12 and again on 10/26/12. My dream is to be able to continue my education and play baseball at the college level. My goals are to practice and play hard on the baseball field as well as to succede in the class room. To be a good teammate and student and to have a great college experience. My aspirations are to be a leader in my community and to represent my family, school, and team in a positive light.
