Subj: George Max Navadel, RHP – 2017 MLB Prospect
Good day Sir,
My name is George Max Navadel, the Closer for the St. Thomas Aquinas College (NCAA DII) baseball team, and I’d like to solicit the Bureau’s support to consider me for addition as a 2017 MLB Draft Prospect.
To sit back on the sidelines and hope for a positive outcome is just not in my wheelhouse, sir. I prefer to create opportunities vs. wishing for opportunities to occur. And as I prepare to go into my final year of playing NCAA DII baseball, I wanted to express my desire to do whatever it takes to continue on (post-college) and play at the next level with a MLB franchise.
I’m anything but just another average right handed pitcher – I get outs, period! I’m good enough today to add value to any professional team I play for as a pitcher, and as I continue to develop playing NCAA college baseball, (stronger, more effective, and a better all-around player each year), I know I’m still far from reaching my ultimate potential. As Tom House says, “the only difference between good and great is effort”. I remain focused on working hard each day to improve my overall physical capabilities as a player and further hone my baseball skills as a pitcher.
“Getting Outs” is my no. 1 mission on the mound, and my focus on achieving success is relentless. What makes me different is a combination of background, current capabilities, coach-ability, drive, and potential.
My Background: I have moved from country to country every two to three years for most of my life (United States, Kazakhstan, Bolivia, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and finally back to the US). My dad was a US Marine and is currently a US Diplomat and works at our Embassies overseas. My background is pretty unique and has required that I be creative to continue bettering my abilities on the mound. For a three-year period, right prior to heading to HS in Texas, I was living in Manama Bahrain. I had a full cage in my back yard where I trained two to four hours each day that I was not traveling to pitch (two days a week my dad and I drove to Saudi Arabia where I played/pitched on a Seniors team, and every other week, my dad and I flew to Kuwait so I could pitch DH weekends for a Senior team there). It’s because of my dad that I have trained with Coach Tom House for years (my dad is a NPA Coach and has been a pitching coach for as long as I can remember). I was recruited out of High School to pitch for New Mexico Military Institute (NJCAA DI), and from there recruited during the early signing period to pitch for St. Thomas Aquinas College (NCAA DII). During the summer periods, I was either at USC training directly under Coach Tom House, playing in the NYCBL, or the PGCBL (currently playing for the Utica Blue Sox). Accolades include: NJCAA DI Region V All Star team 2014/15, 2016 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region Second Team, 2016 D2CCA Baseball All-East Region Second Team, 2016 ECC Baseball All-Conference First Team, 2016 NCAA DII Top 10 nationally for Saves, 2016 ECC No. 1 for Saves, and hold STAC college record for Saves.
Since I had to fight through adversity and change throughout my entire playing career, I’m appreciative for each opportunity I have to take the field, do my job, and better my skills…I take nothing for granted. Given the opportunity, I will bring the same tenacity and value as a pitcher/player to the MLB.
Current Capabilities: 6’1”/6’2” 215lbs (athletic build) with no prior or known medical problems
• “Deceptive” with repeatable mechanics and quick/smooth delivery. Consistent ¾ to low ¾ Arm slot and release point. Same Arm slot used in the delivery of all pitches. High percentage of 1st pitch strikes, low no. of BB’s, low batting average against, and low no. of hits/hard hit balls. Comfortable and reliable in high pressure situations. Understand and use Effective Velocity (EV) with pitch sequencing.
• 2S FB (heavy)/Sinker
o Velo – Average high 80’s (87-89) with peak in the low 90’s (92-93)
o Movement – Sharp late Sinking FB/In and down appx 4-6 in. to a RH batter
o Accuracy/consistency – Can throw for strikes and hit spots
• 4S FB / Cutter
o Velo – Average high 80’s (87-89) with peak in the low 90’s (92-93)
o Movement – Sharp late cut/In and down appx 2-4 in. to a LH batter
o Accuracy/consistency – Can throw for strikes and hit spots
• Slider (hard)
o Velo – Average low 80’s (80-83)
o Movement – Sharp late break/down appx 12-18 in. and lateral 6-24 in.
o Accuracy/consistency – Can throw for strikes and hit spots. Used interchangeably for first pitch strike or out pitch
• Slider/Slurve
o Velo – Average mid to upper 70’s (75-80)
o Movement – Sharp to gradual late break/down appx 12-24 in. and lateral 6-24 in.
o Accuracy/consistency – Can throw for strikes and hit spots. Used for strike or out pitch
• Change Up
o Velo – Average mid to upper 70’s/low 80’s (75-82)
o Movement – When working, good downward motion
o Accuracy/consistency – working on consistency. Often uses slurve or slower FB in Change Up situation
Coach-ability: Active listener and team oriented. I have the ability to actualize instruction, and with deliberate intent, incorporate suggestions into both training and performance. I also actively assist my coaches in teaching my teammates with understanding and actualizing instruction to improve their pitching abilities. Non-game days, I have specific routines I adhere to – my work ethic is the same with or without the coach providing oversight and direction. Game days, I have deliberate routines with the mindset that I will always be going in to a save situation – mentally and physically prepare to do my job when called on to take the mound.
Potential: At 21 yrs old, I’m still developing physically and will ultimately gain additional strength and weight. Currently at 200 lbs with the potential of 220/225 lbs once fully developed. Overall FB velocity continues to gradually increase. In working with those who have worked with thousands of pitchers, experts like Tom House, I expect my sitting velocity to eventually get to the low 90’s, peaking in the mid 90’s. All other pitches will increase in velocity accordingly. Additionally, the potential separation in velocity between FB’s, breaking pitches, and off-speed with increased velocity will result in greater EV spreads – resulting in more swings and misses, weak ground balls, and FO. Although the potential exists to eventually transition into a MLB starting pitcher role, I’m more likely to provide the greatest value to the team’s bullpen (long relief, 7th/8th inning setup man, or closer). Most importantly, in any situations…when the game is on the line, “I get outs”!
I have included a USB drive that contains a few vids for you to view to aid in your assessment of my current capabilities and potential with the MLB. I have also included a soft copy of this letter and url’s for easy access to additional vids and recruiting profiles. Additionally, please find the following references:

During the NPA Coaches Certification, Coach Tom House told all the coaches that while I was at the summer training at USC my FB was hitting 88 MPH topping out at 92 MPH. Sticking to "the process" and hard work is paying off. August 15, 2014

Sir/Ma’am – first, I’d like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to view my recruiting files, and consider me as a possible addition to your roster. In weighing all my options and talking things over with my dad earlier this year, I made the decision to commit to New Mexico Military Institute (NJCAA Div 1) to be one of their starting pitchers for the 2013/2014 -2014/2015 seasons. During an official visit, I had an opportunity to meet with the entire team, the new strength and conditioning coach Brian Tracz, Coach Chris Cook (head coach) and Coach Rowdy Hardy (pitching/assistant coach), and tour the facilities. I believe, at this time sir, NMMI is the right fit. I’m honored and humbled to have been offered both a substantial scholarship to attend a very reputable institution and a starting position on the Bronco roster.
Sir, since NMMI is a 2 year program, I will be looking for a new home beginning the 2015/2016 season. Please keep me in mind as a player that is “good right now”, but “even better after two years playing NJCAA Div 1 baseball, as a Bronco at New Mexico Military Institute”.
Throughout my tenure while playing for NMMI, Coach Cook said to feel free and contact him regarding my overall abilities as a member of the team and progress as one of his starting pitchers. Coach Cook’s contact information is as follows:

Respectfully (or as my dad would say – “Semper fidelis”), George Max
PS. Coach, I spent the entire summer living in the dorms at USC and working with Coach Tom House…training with other college and pro-pitchers (and at times, alongside of quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Terrelle Pryor, etc.). It’s really interesting how all rotational athletes, regardless of the sport or level of play, get put through the same conditioning and drills as we do as pitchers. As I report to NMMI, I know I have done everything I could do to be physically, mechanically, and mentally ready to make an immediate positive impact for my new team.
To show that I might be "that player" to complement any organization that gives me a shot as part of their roster, I have included two url’s with footage of me pitching in games at Pepperdine, San Diego State, Occidental College, and other vids/pics you might find useful.

** One of my goals is to improve my long toss from my current 300-310 ft to 360-370 ft **
It is a given that all high school students wishing to continue their education look for a reputable scholastic institution. The University I attend must also have a quality baseball program so that I can both further my education and continue to grow and improve in my chosen sport. All my hard work is beginning to pay off. As my dad says, “I’m on the cusp of achieving one of my long-term goals (to play college ball) and success in inevitable if I remain dedicated and focused”. Over the past few years, I have gone from an 11 year old beginning pitcher barely hitting 55 mph, to a 18 year old who is now touching 90 mph…with an arsenal of pitches, good control, and pretty filthy late movement.
Although currently living in Texas (6512 Royal Ridge Dr., El Paso TX 79912), I am a native Californian and a California resident (537 Holly Lane, Vista CA 92084).
Arrived in El Paso 24 Mar 2011 -- Evacuated from Manama, Bahrain due to Political Unrest. Due to an early departure from Bahrain, my 2011 season in Kuwait and Saudi was cut short. I resumed my “Spring Training” schedule, played in an International tournament, summer and fall ball with Franklin High School, trained at USC with Coach Tom House (NPA/RDRBI, Motion Analysis and STAR Profile completed), and prepared with my teammates for the 2012 Varsity season...playing for Coach Andy Powers. Summer 2012 was even more intense, filled with tournaments, showcases, and hard work with Coach Tom House.
Additional Baseball Information:
Max velocity currently at 89 MPH with an average of 84-86 MPH for 4SFB, 79-84 MPH for 2SFB/Cutter, 74-82 MPH for Slider, and Change Up average at 69-76 MPH.
I am currently working hard during pre-season on conditioning, mechanics, and EV. To ensure proper EVMPH spreads, I added a cutter and (pitches that I already use are: 4SFB, 2SFB/Sinker, Slider, Change Up) -- working hard on my off-speed pitches.
In addition to Varsity Summer and Fall Ball 2011/12, I flew to Italy at the end of June to pitch and play for the Kuwait National Seniors Team during this year’s LL International tournament. The game I started against Bulgaria, I had a “W” with 7 K’s. In July/Aug 2011, I spent a few weeks in California (I am both a native and resident of CA – address: 537 Holly Lane, Vista CA), where I spent time/trained with Coach Tom House at USC as I do each year. As part of my training, I had a complete Motion Analysis workup conducted and STAR profile to better direct my training and hone my baseball skills (mechanics, conditioning, and mental/emotional). The day of the MA, I followed Barry Zito, which was pretty cool. After the MA, I threw my last full bull pen with Tom H. critiquing...and it went real well. Coach Tom told me I had a combination of the mechanical characteristics inherent to both Roy Oswalt and Dave Cone...he also said that he believed I had the right stuff to make it -- collegiate and MLB. Needless to say, I was on cloud nine. All my hard work is starting to pay off... At 16 and pushing 6'2", my experience will help keep me both motivated and focused – continuing to train hard to prepare for the upcoming 2012 regular Varsity season.
**Motion Analysis results are available upon request**
My story is a rather unique one. Due to my dad’s work, most of my baseball experience has been playing for teams outside of the United States. This meant that in order for me to grow to the point where I was competitive with those players surrounded by year-round baseball, my dad and I had to be creative, develop a comprehensive series of programs and opportunities that mirrored / simulated what most baseball players
take for granted. Over the past six years, I routinely played on three different teams in three different countries – one where I was living, one country that I would drive to a few times each week, another that I would jump on a plane and fly to every other week to pitch and play for a team on their double header weekends. On the days I was not playing, my dad and I would work hard on conditioning, drills, bull pens, etc. for two to four hours – often finishing after 9 or 10pm in the evening. Where other boys were out playing around, I spent most all of my free time working on bettering my skills. I have been taught that the only difference between good and great is “effort”. This is something that holds true across the board: for Athletics, studies, work, with family and friends. I believe you must be both balanced and consistent. You must strive to give your all in all aspects of life. For the athletics, in order for me to be the best I can be (all the time), I need to spend just as much effort on conditioning my body and mind…each and every day. I strive to do the right thing even when no one is looking.

Arrived in El Paso 24 Mar 2011 -- Evacuated from Manama, Bahrain due to Political Unrest. I was attending the Dept of Defense (DoDDEA) High School in Manama, Bahrain. Currently attending Franklin High School, El Paso TX, where I will complete both my Junior and Senior year.
All scores and transcripts have been sent to the NCAA Clearinghouse ID 1008200326 and NAIA Clearinghouse ID 0036363.
I am currently living in Roswell, NM attending college at New Mexico Military Institute. I am a resident of both Texas (6512 Royal Ridge Dr., El Paso TX 79912), I am a native Californian and California resident (537 Holly Lane, Vista CA 92084).
How I am actively involved in my community:
For the past five years, I have worked with boys and girls, using my experience to help improve their baseball skills (both the mental and physical aspects of the game). I helped Head Coaches with Little League T-ball, Minors, Majors, and Challenger Division. I have had the opportunity to attend numerous baseball camps, to include specialized pitcher training with the National Pitching Association. Part of this training consisted of time spent with Coach Tom House at USC where I audited the Coaches Certification Course. In returning to the Middle East (I play ball in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain), I was able to give back to the younger players in the local leagues the knowledge I acquired while back in the US -- per my dad, diplomacy through the “Great American Past Time”.
How I plan to serve my community in the future:
Teaching younger boys and girls what I have learned is not just limited to baseball. This skill of “giving back to my community” can be applied to any and all subjects. This is something I try to do each day. If I can teach at least one new thing to one person each day, that’s 365 people I will have been able to positively affect each year. This is something I view as an individual responsibility each of us must embrace – a lesson my parents have taught me and one I embrace as part of who I am.
How I pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete:
I have been taught that the only difference between good and great is “effort”. This is something that holds true across the board: for Athletics, studies, work, with family and friends. I believe you must be both balanced and consistent. You must strive to give your all in all aspects of life. For the athletics, in order for me to be the best I can be (all the time), I need to spend just as much effort on conditioning my body and
mind…each and every day. I strive to do the right thing even when no one is looking.
