Baseball has always been my favorite sport. I have been playing baseball since I was four years old and have learned to the love the game more and more each year. Last year during the regular school season and summer season I learned what it means to be the leader of a team. As a sophomore starting pitcher on the Richland High School Varsity Baseball team, I earned my Varsity letter and the Coaches MVP Award for working hard each practice and playing hard during our games along with helping my teammates to further develop their baseball skills during practices. I played summer baseball with the West Hills Vipers organization in Bremerton, WA. While I was there my Vipers coach emphasized to me how to be a leader, a pitcher, and a coach. An opportunity he gave me was to help create the line-ups for our games and valued my opinion for who I thought was the best player for each position. This experience allowed me to be a player and student of the game.
It's one thing to be an athlete but another thing to be a student athlete. Last year at the beginning of my sophomore year I transferred to Richland High School from Delta High School, a S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school. I left Delta with a GPA of 2.2. Since then I have raised my cumulative GPA to a 2.84 after earning a GPA of a 3.4 and above for the past four quarters. This has been an uphill battle for me but I have been putting forth a lot of hard work, time, and effort in raising my GPA. My goal is to raise it above a 3.2 in order to gain more opportunities for academic scholarships. Along with earning a college degree in biological sciences, education, history, sports medicine, or psychology, I have a goal of playing baseball throughout my collegiate career. I am very fortunate and grateful for the opportunities that allowed me to get where I am today.
