Personal Statement
My name is Cameron Duckett (5'10", 175 lbs.). Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. Right now, I'm a sophmore at Grays Harbor Community College and looking to transfer to a college next year to keep on playing baseball. As a 2011 graduating senior, my dream for the future includes playing baseball and attending college. I am working hard to make that dream a reality. As a high school varsity athlete, I participated in three sports. My accomplishments include FOOTBALL: 2nd team Northeast A League All-League Offense and Defense playing the positions of quarterback, wide receiver and safety. I was also selected as the Team Captain. BASKETBALL: Point Guard, Team Captain and KREM 2 (TV) Play of the Week. And, of course, BASEBALL (see narrative below). After reviewing my academic record (GPA 3.57 including 5 Advanced Placement courses) and my athletic background, I would appreciate the opportunity to personally speak with you. Once being selected for a team, my goal is to continually improve my athletic ability and encourage my team mates to strive for excellence. Coming to practice early and staying late, if it will help the team, is part of the hard work ethic I practice. I believe in putting my team first and will always work hard in whatever I do. For the past two years, I have been the co-captain for both Freeman High School and American Legion baseball teams. The positions I play include short stop, 2nd base and center field. Selected as the Northeast A All- League, First Team, Designated Hitter Sophomore year, my batting average was .492. The next year, my batting average was .393 and I was again selected as the First Team, Northeast A, All-League Designated Hitter. I also earned the 2010 Spring Northeast , All- League First Team, All Conference. My senior year I received the Northeast A All-League Most Valuable Player award. I am looking forward to continuing to improve my batting average, continuing in playoffs for my high school team and participating in the AAA Legion summer league playing for the Spokane Cannons. I was recruited to play with this team and offered a position with the team. This team travels throughout the Northwest region. Since the age of four, I played Little League and Junior League pre-high school. I learned to always play hard and to keep my head in the game no matter what happened. This carried forward to times of adversity in my life. Through athletics, and specifically baseball, I have learned to always be mentally strong through my life. Although my family does not have the financial means to pay for college, I am optimistic. Between a baseball scholarship and financial aid, I can pursue my education. I am willing to play any position. Although I have not narrowed down a specific major, my areas of interest include criminal justice, law enforcement, law, medicine, acting, history and music. I have a passion for the game of baseball and I cannot imagine my future without baseball as a major part of my life. Again, thank you, for reviewing my materials. I encourage you to contact my references to inquire about my athletic skill set, integrity, character or any other information you may wish to learn about me.
