Personal Statement
Being part of a team is one of the greatest feelings you can ever feel. I have learned much about not only baseball but how to live my life the best way I possibly can. This knowledge came from all my coaches and from my fellow teammates. I have learned from past experiences that in order to be successful, I need to put everything I have into what I'm doing.
Since I can remember, I have always loved baseball. In recent years I played basketball and ran cross country, but I realized that I want to increase my skills in baseball. I did not play basketball my junior year because I was training over winter to prepare for spring. The break I took from basketball showed me that I would rather be putting all my time and effort into baseball. I plan to continue to just play baseball so I can increase my skills to develop myself for the collegiate level.
This past year on June 23rd, my city of Richwood received huge amounts of rainfall that resulted in the 1,000 year flood. It was absolutely devastating. The water destroyed everything in it's path from people's homes and their possessions to our high school and all of it's fields and courts. We lost everything and had to start from scratch. Thanks to the help of many businesses and our governor Jim Justice, we were able to rebuild and make our way back to where we were. The flood made me realize that things can change in the blink of an eye and you need to be prepared to take action even when your'e least expecting to. Overcoming the 1,000 year flood was an enormous accomplishment for the city of Richwood and myself as well. It's amazing what can be done when people come together, especially after a tragic event like that.
I always utilize the tools set before me to accomplish the challenges that lie ahead of me. Baseball has taught me how to handle various situations and how to carry myself as an individual. I have also learned to be a leader and how to manage my priorities to get the most out of what I'm putting my time into. I hope to continue my journey as a student and player and receive a well-rounded education while also playing the sport I love.
