I was a well respected pitcher in high school but my team never amounted to anything. I nearly quit because of the lack of effort and lost the drive to play. I never sought out to be recruited cause I didn't feel I would amount to anywhere good. I ended up applying to a DII (Shippensburg Univ.) for academic purposes and regained that spark. I'm 5'9 a buck 150 and was one of two players of 34 that tried out to make it. I made it as a pitcher. Unfortunately once the fall season was over, the coach gave me the boot, surprising me along with recruited and veteran players. It wasn't all bad because he had a sit down meeting with me telling me he'd do all that he can to get me somewhere else to play knowing I have the drive to play college ball. In less than a week, 5 colleges had returned his calls. I'm now at a DIII state school as a sophomore and am officially the closer. Sure it's a long shot, but with hard work and dedication, I've made it possible and I think anyone with this type of drive can do the same.

Interesting to see that there is a program like this. I think it is great for the player that may think the "grey shirt" offer is the best they can get. Me personally I would rather play any day then bench it.

Hello,
I come from a high school which has a RICH history of producing College and even NFL players. It's sometimes funny how on recruitment questionaires they sometimes ask you "Who is the best player you have ever played against?", i usually reply there same guys i share a locker room with. Many of the guys I hjave practiced and played with have ent on to D1 programs Duch as ULM, FAMU, Navy, Louisville, Kentucky, as well as MANY other places. We all have to basically promote ourselves to college coaches, because our coaches are not the best @ getting us recruited. I am an extremely hard worker (Bench 325, Squat 505, Clean 275 40: 4.8) I have recently been offered a scholarship from an NAIA school as an FB/ LB. I however due to family reasons i have chosen to go to Miles College in AL and "Walk On". I have spoken to some assistant coaches, and actually met the head coach, who personally invited me to summer workouts with the team. Since I was offered a scholarship @ a NAIA program, due i have a chance to get P.T. & @ least earn a partial scholarship @ this D2 program?

My son has been offered a scholarship to a D1 school and his coaches are pushing him towards a D1AA school, I don't understand playing D1 he will get national exposure and is good enough to play at that level. He only wants to go to D1AA because this particular school has had a winning record and the D1 school is young. Also my son is willing to change majors to accommodate the D1AA program, what do u do when kids think coaches now more that parents. I am trying to get thru to him that I have his best interest at heart and he needs to put academics before football. Also is it true that D1AA schools usually shoot for financial aid first then make up the rest in scholarships more known as a partial

Pat,

I have been going through the recruiting process and i got a couple of scholarship offers to Division II schools that i dint really like, I could have had others from Division II schools that i wanted to go to but the players at my position have been talking to that schools for quite some time. So they got the job over me. I took an offer from a Division I school that i love and have a great walk on program. So it's not always that your not good enough for the school you want to go to and get turned down, but it's that you got picked over kids that are familiar with the program and know more people.
Questions?
