My 6'3" daughter is considering a volleyball walk on at a D1 school this fall and is currently talking with the coach. What is your take on Volleyball? She wants to stay in the southwest and warmer weather though has received a lot of interest from the east/midwest since sophomore year. She is talking with a D3 as well though loves the D1 school even if volleyball wasn't available. She is a determined, hard working player always looking to improve and loves the game enough to continue on in college.

Teron Davis walked on for Louisburg JC hit .460 for the JV dressed for Varisty and never played a inning. Was told since you did not play High School Baseball you where behind everyone else after he told the Coach he has been playing since 4yrs old played Legion Ball and Showcase ball turned down a ride at New Mexico Highlands for Football yet it seems like he was doing my Son a favor and to top it off in the evalshe did not tell my Son or offer for him to come back!!! Unreal whats in some of these Coaches heart.

George - Thanks for sharing your son's recruiting story. I can understand your son's frustration and we hear about this sort of thing every day. Your son can certainly transfer and if he needs help in finding potential programs to transfer to, that's what NCSA does. You should call 866-579-6272 to find out more.

In other words even if a walk on is good, he will never play and be treated with no regard?

Our son is a walk on, and now a sophmore at a small D1 school (struggling program), he has contributed to the team, he is all the great things you want in a student athlete. Talented and the coaches like him. But has received little playing time this year, other players have played after repeated poor performances (pitching) and still get in. The pitching coach had made a few comments recently about not getting time no matter how good you are because of the walk-on status.
He is frustrated he is one very dedicated athlete, we are all at a loss. Our son wants to continue to play ball....what are the possible options?
Please advise....thank you

It seems as if we made some mistakes it the whole recruiting process.

If this is Baseball prepare your son to leave in December of his freshman year for a good Juco.

If he is going to make the official 35 man squad list he should have a clear indication from the Coaches......like he started most Fall Scrimmage or was lights out pitching.

If not enjoy the half year experience and play at the Juco and see what D1 school comes calling at the end of the spring.

Ok, So what if a D1 college offers you preferred walk on spot, and say they really like you, and want you- but discovered you -after all their money is gone for 2010, but will have money for you in 2011, what do you think?

First, if your HS coach is willing to help and has the time, network and budget to do so, then yes. Second, I am not saying to limit your scope to local colleges, but to search for the schools that best fit you as a student-athlete, that satisfy all categories. Now those colleges may be in your area or they may not be. The moral of the story is to find the place where they want you, where you will be happy, where you will play, where you will graduate, and where you will have the best experience you can possibly have. There are over 1700 colleges out there in America. Which one is for you?

So What I have read above It is in the best intrest of a student athlete to get his high school coach to help him get recruited. Also Go to the colleges near by and those around you talk to those coaches to see what oppurtunities your athlete may have in order to become part of the team.
How do you get to talk to the college level coach our calls are never returned, so what is my next option?
