The Importance of In-Season Training

August 14th, 2008 - by NCSA Staff

In-Season Strength Training is something that is easy to overlook. Most student athletes are coming off a rigorous summer of training and are extremely excited that the season has finally come. Two-a-days come and go, and before you know it you are beginning your season. Great strides are made in the offseason, getting bigger, stronger and faster, and it is important not to let all of that hard work go to waste.

I personally had the chance to visit Bowling Green State University’s Strength and Conditioning Clinic this past spring where there were many different speakers presenting on the importance of strength training. Cincinnati St. Xavier High School Strength Coach, Carlo Alvarez, talked about the importance of in-season training. Not only is it important to maintain strength and good conditioning throughout the season to help prevent injurys, but it is an opportunity to make advancements in your playing career as well.
