Are my Teammates Going to Like Me?
September 9th, 2008 - byWhether it’s getting a new job, moving to a different city, or going to college everyone want to fit in and feel welcomed. Playing college athletics and trying to “fit in” is a challenge kids are faced with. Male or female, athletes will always ask themselves “are my teammates going to like me?” Her are some tips for student athletes that are uncertain about this transition:
1. Remember: THEY RECRUTIED YOU! Out of all the student athletes across the nation, they chose you to join their program.
2. Recognize and Embrace change. Tell yourself this change is for the better!
3. Be Yourself. Don’t try to be someone your not!
4. Stay in contact with your close friends from home. Use them as your safety net!
5. Be Social. Don’t be the quiet kid in the corner at the high school dance!
6. Have Fun with it. People can tell if you are nervous and uncomfortable!
7. Work Hard. If you give 100% to your sport your teammates will respect you!
8. Check your Ego at the door. Have a winning attitude, not a “me” attitude!
9. Have Passion and Believe. It’s contagious!
10. First Impressions are Huge. Introduce yourself to everyone the first day of practice. Get to know everyone’s name!

Best of Luck!
