College coaches can “talk” without even opening their mouths

So technically, a college basketball coach can’t talk to you over the phone until June 15 before your junior year. And your entire junior year, a college coach is not allowed any off-campus contact with you.
But this article about college basketball coaches attending a clinic at Bishop Maginn High School, where top-prospect Taran Buie just so happens to play, proves that just because a coach can’t talk to you doesn’t mean he can’t “talk” to you. From the article:
But as these recognizable faces in school gear (“walking billboards,” Hewitt noted) addressed fellow coaches, their mere presence shouted a different message to a kid sitting off to the side:
We want you, Taran. Here I am, in your home gym on a September Saturday, just so I can say hi — even if I can’t.
Of course, Buie is a blue-chipper, and coaches aren’t going to do this for just any Joe Schmoe. But what the average student-athlete looking to get recruited can take away is that the recruiting process is always going on, even during periods where technically, the coach can’t make contact with you.
If a coach wants you bad enough, he or she will find a way to always make sure he or she stays in the loop, and that you’ll know that.
