Bradley Krisanits, NCSA Student Athlete: 2-a-Days
October 29th, 2008 - by Hell week or also known as two-a-days started August 11th to August 21st. They started at 8 am; we practiced till 10 am then had lunch and some brainwork. We started back up at Noon and ended at 2 pm. This was my first hell week and I had no idea what to expect.
Our first day was pretty hard and I felt sore but after the second day I think I started to get the hang of two-a-days. I was the underdog sophomore coming in so I had to prove something! So about the second or third day when I was playing Linebacker I blitzed like I never blitzed before and o’boy did I hit someone. That someone was an amazing 6ft junior linebacker, fullback, and tight end Kolby Fedder it was a hard hit! Ever since then I have not taken any practices easy.
Hell week went on and our first scrimmage was on August 16th against Pottsville Nativity BVM. I did not start but I played linebacker and tackle. Offensive tackle I did pretty well against BVM’s varsity boys and dominated their JVs, everyone did great though. I ended the game with 7 total tackles, 4 assist, 3 solos and 1 huge hit! My big hit was just amazing their senior running back ran a outside pitch to the left I was playing left side linebacker. During the play I shed two blocks, and kept sprinting at the running back. Our corner attempted a low tackle but the back jukes to the left, right to where I was sprinting. I lowered my shoulder and just nailed him. You could hear the hit and it was pretty loud! We ended up dominating BVM I am not too sure of the score because we did not score scrimmages but it had to be a blowout!
Well our first scrimmage was over and it was back to two-a-days till August 21st. August 22nd it was back on the gridiron for our second scrimmage. The scrimmage was against Shickallemy, a team way better then BVM. I did not start again, but I got to play the end of the game. I dominated again and so did our whole team! I finished the game with 4 total tackles, 1 assist and 3 solo tackles. I also did well on the offensive line at tackle. This was another dominating win for Central Columbia Blue Jays. As the August started to end the only thing worst then two-a-days was coming…the first day of school!
Just kidding schools all right. So on August 25th I began the first day of my sophomore school year. Now practices ran from 3 pm to 5:30 pm or whenever Coach wanted it to end. The first week of school went well and I was looking forward to Friday night…game time!
Our season opener was against a state ranked team Loyalsock. The crowd was ready for the new season to begin. For us to prove we knew how to win. I did not get to play this game but it did not stop me from helping any way I could. I would yell pass and run on the sideline and congratulate my teammates. I was not starting varsity but that did not stop me from working hard. Sadly Central lost our first game 21-8 to the Loyalsock Lancers. But we regrouped on Saturday and prepared for next game…a new month, a new week, and a new game.
