NCAA Crackdown
October 30th, 2008 - byThis week the NCAA responded to pundits that have complained of lax punishment for rule offenders by releasing new stiff sanctions. These sanctions include a return to television bans, giving closer consideration to postseason bans, widening the use of scholarship cuts and levying monetary fines. The infractions committee released the statement:
“The committee feels that, over the years, the penalties really have gotten out of synch with the magnitude of violations. Increasingly, there were people on campus saying, ‘There’s no teeth here. Did they lose any scholarships? Were they taken out of the postseason? Were wins vacated? And if not, it couldn’t have been a big case.’ … Only certain penalties really signal seriousness to anybody.”
These new penalties make it more essential than ever for recruits to do their homework to make sure the school they choose will be competing on full cylinders for their entire college career.
