Yes, I agree that a mercy rule should be impose because I believe there is nothing to gain by beating teams by 50 or more points when you know that your team is far superior and that the opposition that you are beating have no way of coming back. I recently witness a highschool girls team beating a a team 58-4 at half and the coach was still using a full court press with starters in the game. It was no way that the other team was coming back because they could barely dribble the ball. They won 103- 20 something. Personally, I believe you gain absolutely nothing at all.

I feel that the 100-0 game was very uncalled for. That coach should have put his 5 worst players in the game by the 2nd quarter. That would have given the bench warmers some playing time and it would also have made the game a little more exciting. Who would want to win 100-0? My pet peave is when a coach keeps his starters - or even his 2nd string in too long when you are getting stomped. That coach needs to learn sportsmanship and he needs to reprimanded. He should have been teaching his girls about heart instead of about winning. His day will come for payback. - What comes around goes around.

Mercy Rules only worsen the situation believe it or not.

You deprive the reserves on both sides of quality playing time. You shorten the game and all of sudden your'e playing hop scotch or something foreign. I say the good coaches can regulate the game themselves so sportsmanship prevails. But this is where the reserves on both sides can play and learn. Isn't this is what it is about?? Learning and honoring the game. Turn off the scoreboards, and put away the stat books and focus on the little victories within the game, boxing out, dribbling with a weaker hand, practice some baby hook moves, etc......
