The NCSA 2009 Top Recruiting Classes
February 4th, 2009 - by1- LSU - By far the number one class. Great depth with a number of potential impact players. They nabbed an incredible 5 recruits in our top 25. The headliner is our number one overall player QB Russell Shepard.
2- USC - Had the most volatile day of any program in the top 5. Despite a few decommits they picked up enough talent
including top 50 player Frankie Telfort to land another superb class. When your class consists of top players like Matt Barkley, Devon Kennard and several other top 200 recruits plus tremendous upside in almost every second tier player, you have another haul for Pete Carroll.
3- Alabama - Alabama made the biggest move of any team in our top 10. They kept Trent Richardson and added two signing day decisions in Dre Kirkpatrick and Kendall Kelly to complete an already special class for Nick Saban.
4- Texas - Mack Brown continues to load up on fast athletic players at every position. They barely had to leave the state to come up with another top class. They landed arguably the best pure QB Garret Gilbert with pro-typical size and arm strength plus the ability to beat you with his legs. Complimenting Gilbert are 4 outstanding offensive lineman to keep him on his feet.
5- Ohio State - Two headliners from outside the state, RB Jamaal Berry (FL) and LB Dorian Bell (PA) give Jim Tressel’s Buckeye’s another strong class.
6 - Michigan - Michigan has to be excited about is meeting a lot of their glaring needs. They improved their pass rush, and signed an athletic, accurate QB in Tate Forcier. Coach Rodriguez is building athleticism and speed, this class will help him get there.
7 - Georgia - Signed two top 100 QB’s in Aaron Murray FL and Zack Mettenberger GA. Plus they tabbed the best receiver in America the incredible 6’5 205 lbs. Marlon Brown of Harding Academy.
8 - Florida - Urban Meyer’s haul includes the signing day addition of Jelani Jenkins and earlier commit Andre Debose. They have a smaller class but the quality is strong with 8 commits in our top 200.
9 - Notre Dame - The only thing we need to say about Irish is Manti Teo’. Manti is a difference maker. Then you add Shaq Evans, Cierre Wood, Tyler Stockton and Chris Watt to make Charlie Weis’ squad bigger faster and stronger.
10 - Miami - Our number 10 spot came down to two bitter intra state rivals. Just edging out the Florida State Seminoles are the Hurricanes. Both schools signed 7 of our top 200 but Miami scored big with Bryce Brown and Ray Ray Armstrong.

Signing Day Blog (Live): Trent Richardson to Alabama
February 4th, 2009 - byAlabama continues to climb our rankings by offiicially nabbing the top running abck on our board, #3 overall on SI/Takkle Top 200 Rankings, Trent Richardson. He has terrific balance and can stick his foot in the ground and get up field. He’s a downhill runner with a solid body that should be able to handle the pounding. Richardson should be very capable of carrying the ball 20 to 30 times a game.
Signing Day Blog (Live): Rueben Randle to LSU
February 4th, 2009 - byA widely expected but never the less huge signing for LSU. Randle likely cements LSU as the top recruiting class in the country. The #19 recruit in the nation has the speed and size to play in the slot or on the outside. Randle makes the tough catch and will go over the middle without hesitation. His length and ability to catch the ball in traffic will make him a prime target for the quarterback.
Signing Day Blog (Live): Marlon Brown to Georgia
February 4th, 2009 - byWR Marlon Brown #6 on the SI/Takkle Top 200 Rankings powered by the NCSA has chosen the Bulldogs of Georgia led by Mark Richt. Marlon has great wiggle for a taller receiver and makes plays after the catch. His God given size and speed go with his toughness and versatility to make him a very difficult match up for DBs and linebackers. If Brown gets to 225 watch out!
