Bending the Recruiting Rules…

July 8th, 2009 - by Amanda Rawson

As we all know the college coach is held to an abundance of rules. Each year those rules are published in black and white, yet it may be too easy to find the gray line in-between. An article called, “Defining the different shades of gray,” looks into these gray lines and how they affect the college coach, the student-athlete, the fans and the first amendment.

Here are few quotes from the article:

“An NC State student was rebuked by the university after starting a Facebook group called “John Wall PLEASE Come to NC STATE.” Wall, one of the nation’s top high school basketball recruits, signed with Kentucky.”

“Rather than rush legislation to monitor what coaches can and can’t do on Twitter and Facebook, the NCAA decided to apply the rules it already had in place to the new fads. ”

”The ACLU and other free-speech groups already have come down on the NCAA’s attempts to monitor an individual’s free expression.”

What do you think?
