Concerned Parent - Here are the risks with email: 1) If a student-athlete doesn't write well or proof-read their email, then they won't leave a favorable impression. 2) Well written emails are perceived by college coaches as written by parents, so how does a college coach know the email is coming from the student-athlete? 3) Phone calls allow those on the other end to hear passion, enthusiasm, etc. that may not be effectively conveyed in writing. When comparing the effectiveness of two communication modes (email vs. phone call), phone calls are vastly superior! But make sure that a student-athlete is practiced in both modes of communication. If you need help on that, call 866-579-6272.

You are suggesting that kids make phone calls to coaches. You suggest that this is more effective than emails? I would think so, even tho kids are more reluctant to talk than to email. How important do you think it is to call? Are follow-up emails just as useful (almost!) than phone calls?
