Mary - Your child can make an unofficial visit anytime, beginning freshman year.

Martha - I'd suggest that your son have a phone conversation with the coach who issued the invitation and find out who all will be available for in-person meetings.

May son was asked to come on campus for an unofficial visit and was given two dates to do so. Call back info was given in the letter to let them know if we would be coming. Does this mean the coach will be willing to meet with us? I have heard of unofficical visits were the coach is not available. This would be a cross country flight.
