Coaches Corner: Wisconsin Lutheran College Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Ryann Herrmann
April 2nd, 2010 - by1. How would you describe yourself as a coach?
I am driven to win and expect a high level of output from myself. I expect the same level of dedication and drive from my athletes and will push them to their limits athletically. I love my job and while pushing myself and athletes to reach full potential, I enjoy having lots of laughs fulfilling my role.
2. What is unique about the experience at your school?
Wisconsin Lutheran College is a young institution (founded in 1973). Not only are you receiving a quality education and soccer experience, but you are furthering the establishment of the institution’s academic and athletic programs. Once you’ve graduated and looked back on it all, you will be able to say you had a big hand in its growth and development.
3. What do recruits need to know about you?
I have always been a believer that through athletics we can grow and develop not only as athletes, but as people. Collegiate soccer is mentally challenging and very physically demanding. I want my athletes to be able to draw on the challenges they experience on the field and use them to improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Also, I am very dedicated to using the mental and physical challenges we face to build the WLC Women’s Soccer program to a level of elite performance.
4. What do you look for in recruits?
I am looking for athletes with a high level of technical ability, work ethic, soccer knowledge, dedication and drive to do whatever it takes to win. I also look for athletes with character. I want soccer players who are not only good for the progression of our program but also for our institution. I want recruits to represent themselves, the team and everything that is Warriors Soccer well!
5. What is the one thing every recruit needs to do with the recruiting process?
Choose a college or university that fits you not only athletically but academically. By choosing any program you are becoming a student-athlete. I want them to be as successful on the field as in the classroom. If you can’t cut it in the classroom you won’t even make it to the field. Your degree lasts a lifetime!
6. What sort of questions do you really like to hear from recruits?
Haha… “Do any of the girls on the team have number…”? Then I know you are serious.
7. What turns you off when you are recruiting a student athlete?
I don’t like to hear that athletes become disinterested simply because of the Division III label. Division III does not mean a lack in talent or a less valuable experience. At this level we can provide a highly-competitive, quality, rewarding and memorable experience.
8. What do you think your program is the most successful at?
Currently, growth. Our program is young and we are building it with quality soccer players. There is an immense amount of opportunity for girls to come to this program and have an immediate impact in a big way. We are growing in experience and skill and are pleased to continue adding more athletes to the tea
9. Why should a recruit consider your program?
As previously mentioned our recruits have the opportunity to have an immediate impact on our program. A skilled, hard-working, dedicated athlete can come to Wisconsin Lutheran and contribute greatly and see time on the field. That, coupled with top notch academic program, will provide a valuable experience that will best prepare them for life after college.
10. If a recruit is interested in your program, how should they reach out to you?
