Coach Taylor – When Should I Expect a Written Scholarship Offer?

April 21st, 2010 - by Rick McDole

Ask Coach Taylor – My daughter has been offered a soccer scholarship to a DI college – and verbally accepted.  When should we expect something in writing?  We are starting to get worried.

Surprisingly, not every program will actually provide a player with a written offer before the NLI signing period. When I went through the process I received several verbal offers that were not followed up with in writing. The actual written offer is not legally binding, so some coaches only send them out as a way to play the game and show that they are “more interested”, but others don’t bother unless the family is adamant about it. I would encourage you to follow up with the coach directly and ask when/if you can expect it in writing.
