How Can My Son get “Pre-evaluated?”
May 5th, 2010 - byCoach – I’d like to ask you a follow-up question to your reply about being on coach’s recruiting list. Below was your reply. “I would recommend that you work to have your son or daughter pre-evaluate by a source that you know college coaches use and it will be much easier to end up on their lists.” Could you give me a guideline as to how you would have my son pre-evaluated by a source that college coaches use? Do we need to contact the coach? Thanks very much for your response.

I always recommend that student athletes be proactive throughout the process and I encourage your son or daughter to directly approach any coach they have a desire to be recruited by. It’s important to understand that most coaches are limited in the time that they have to devote to recruiting, which is why they are more likely to use lists of pre-evaluated players.
If you email or call and you do not end up getting any sort of traction this may be a result of the coaching staff working solely off of their lists. There are several ways to find your way on a trusted list. Most notably, your son or daughter should be recognized as much as possible on the individual high school level. Being an All-State, All-Conference or All-Region type player will go a long way in regards to being included on a list. There are other sources to approach as well. For instance NCSA offers families the opportunity to go through a free recruiting evaluation and to set up a free recruiting profile that will be entered into our recruiting database. With the way recruiting works today, any online sources that recognize your son or daughter as a verified prospect will help your effort.
