Should My Son Call the Coaches?
May 5th, 2010 - by“Coach – If my son does not get a phone call from a D1 school by May 30th, he is not a D1 prospect? He has just recently had recruiters come to his school to pick up his transcripts. Should he call the coaches of the interested institutions and see if he is even on their boards?”

Without a doubt he needs to call. Your son needs to try and engage these coaches to determine who is willing to engage him back. This will allow him to determine who is the most interested. Keep in mind coaches recruit their scholarship prospects on a personal level. Do not be satisfied with mass emails or generic form letters. School visits are great, but most coaches visits hundreds of high schools in any given area. If a coach is unwilling to pick up the phone to get to know your son it is not likely they will be willing to give him a scholarship. Not all D1 players receive a call during this time period, but it does indicate that he needs to make some changes to the way he is approaching his recruiting effort.
