Last Unsigned 2012 Player of ESPNU 150 Signs with Notre Dame
February 22nd, 2012 - byOne of the most sought-after wide receivers of the 2012 class, Davonte Neal, has committed to Notre Dame.
Neal scheduled a press conference at his former elementary school on Tuesday morning. Over 600 people attended, waiting to hear which school he would chose between the remaining contenders Arizona, Arkansas, North Carolina and Notre Dame. Neal never showed. It was later announced that a “family emergency” had caused him to miss his event. Neal told Nick Ruland of ESPN.com that he chose Notre Dame not only for its academics and Kelly’s coaching, but also because members of his family live close by and can see him play.
Listed as an “athlete” by ESPN (it’s still up in the air what position he will play in college) the 5′ 10″, 157-pound Neal played receiver in the Under Armour All-America Game and was a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona. He was ranked 8th in the ESPNU 150 and was the last major recruit of the 2012 class to commit.
Neal is a strong finish to an excellent recruiting year by Coach Brian Kelly and Notre Dame. The Irish signed 5 commits in the ESPNU 150, including the number one quarterback in the country, Gunner Kiel. The Irish will be a team to watch,
