It’s National Signing Day!
Today student-athletes all over the world will sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and commit to a college or university to play their sport at the college level. If you’re signing an NLI today, congrats! After all the time you’ve spent enduring the recruiting process, you have finally found the right fit for you. Although today is a day of celebration, don’t lose sight of what’s ahead. Just because you’ve finished your recruiting process doesn’t mean you should stop working on improving your skills and your game. Don’t lose sight of your academics, either. Just because you’ve signed and are committed to a school doesn’t mean they can’t revoke your scholarships. If you become ineligible to play, whether academically or for another reason they can and will take away your right to play in college. If you have not signed yet, don’t panic. Choosing a college that is the best fit for you is a long process and you shouldn’t commit to a school until you know for sure that it’s the right one. However, now is the time to seriously consider your options. Create a pros-cons list to help put which schools have the essentials that you’re looking for into perspective. Whether you’re signing today or not, take a breath and enjoy this momentous time in your life. The recruiting process is something you’ll never experience again so reflect and make the most of it.
