My son messed up his senior year and ended up getting his GED. He is 18 years old and a phenomenal basketball player. He has been working a job at JC Penney and wants to go to college and play ball. Is it too late for him to try to get in a junior college and play basketball?

From what I have gathered from past comments and tips. You should get all your ducks in a row prior to your Senior year Track and Field season. My son is in 8th grade with good up side but everyone knows that can change. I as a parent am ready right now but grooming my son to be able to fly solo. He needs to talk to adults and Coaches for himself. National exposure is needed to some extent. I have signed him up with a Summer track program in the Jr. Olympics which has National attention. Ask as many questions as you can to get what you are looking for. So, what I'm thinking is all your chasing should be done before the Senior Track Season as far as schools and coaches contact goes. College Track programs have limited space as to how many scholarships are available. Field events have less due to how many points you could attemp in what events. A sprinter that can run the 100, 200, 400 and relays are the most valuable. Women have an easier time of getting a scholship due to a lack of competition. I'm not saying they aren't as good as the guys because they most definitely are. There are more guys competing for the same events. Have your student rise to the level of competition as they say. You need to be a model citizen with good grades, community service and of course ability. Have high lights with the good and the bad. As they want to see how your student will rebound as well. I still don't have the community service thing started and no high lights as I want to find a good video camera for fast motion. I have been working with my son since he was 6 and now he will be 14 Feb. 13, 2012. He has a good base but now it is time to break out. Got a Varsity letter as a 7th grader and is running indoor and then outdoor next this year.
