It is important you thoroughly read the video instructions so NCSA can produce the best video possible for you.
Video Log:
A video log consists of the time codes and descriptions of your best highlights, which allows us to identify where you are in the video. Your top plays will then be selected for use on your recruiting profile. Sending this video log will help us complete your video accurately and as quickly as possible. Below are more specifics needed for your video log.
- Include up to 30 plays on your Video Log.
- Log each of your best highlights and all of these will be considered.
- Be sure your DVD/Computer timer is at 0:00 before logging your footage.
- All time codes must have a start and end time.
- Play descriptions are required.
- Please see the sample Video Log for your sport and use the blank copy to log your footage.
- If the footage does not have a video log we will mail it back.

What Type of Footage to Send:
- VarsityFootage (Freshman/sophomore/JV team footage is generally not recommended).
- Acceptable formats: DVD (.MPG, .MPEG, .MOV, .WMV), YouSendIt files, USB
- Unacceptable formats: .AVI, Windows Movie Maker, MP4 (ITunes), VRO.Movie, CD, VHS, HI-8, Mini DV Tape.
- Always test your DVD on your computer AND a DVD player to be sure it plays.
How to Film:
- Include time between rounds and referee re-sets. Coaches want to see you wrestle, but they also want to see how you react to coaching between rounds, if you hustle back to the center when the referee calls out-of-bounds, your sportsmanship, and overall demeanor (i.e. high head and confidence even if you are behind).
- Continue to film from the moment you step on the mat until you step off, even if the match hits a few slow spots.
- Do not zoom in too close or try to show facial expressions. Focus on the three key elements: yourself, your opponent and the referee.
- Try to capture as much of the mat as possible, including the referee.
- If possible, film the individual, not team score board. If capturing the score board requires you to zoom too far out, film the score board between rounds instead. Show the final score on the scoreboard.
What NCSA will do with your Video:
- Inform you when we receive your video via email. If the footage does not follow the guidelines NCSA will mail it back to the address from which is was received. Otherwise, your footage will not be returned.
- Evaluate up to 25logged plays you send in
- Edit the footage in to a 2-3 minute highlight
- Upload your footage to your recruiting profile.
- Inform you when your video is complete!
The skills video for your NCSA Recruiting Profile is meant to attract initial interest and allow for initial evaluation. Coaches may still want to see you compete in person or view unedited video to fully evaluate your abilities.
