It is important you thoroughly read the video instructions so NCSA can produce the best video possible for you.
Video Log:
A video log consists of the time codes and descriptions of your best highlights, which allows us to identify where you are in the video. Your top plays will then be selected for use on your recruiting profile. Sending this video log will help us complete your video accurately and as quickly as possible. Below are more specifics needed for your video log.
- Include up to 25 plays on your Video Log.
- Log each of your best highlights and all of these will be considered.
- Be sure your DVD/Computer timer is at 0:00 before logging your footage.
- All time codes must have a start and end time.
- Play descriptions are required.
- Please see the sample Video Log for your sport and use the blank copy to log your footage.
- If the footage does not have a video log we will mail it back.

What Type of Footage to Send:
- VarsityFootage (Freshman/sophomore/JV team footage is generally not recommended).
- Acceptable formats: DVD (.MPG, .MPEG, .MOV, .WMV), YouSendIt files, USB
- Unacceptable formats: .AVI, Windows Movie Maker, MP4 (ITunes), VRO.Movie, CD, VHS, HI-8, Mini DV Tape.
- Always test your DVD on your computer AND a DVD player to be sure it plays.
How to Film:
- Be sure to film all of the players on the field, not just the featured player.
- Give a wide enough angle so the coach can watch the entire play develop.
- A tripod is highly recommended.
- Shoot from an elevated location, with a clean line of sight.
- The camera view should not be obstructed.
- Do not zoom in and out
What NCSA will do with your Video:
- Inform you when we receive your video via email. If the footage does not follow the guidelines NCSA will mail it back to the address from which is was received. Otherwise, your footage will not be returned.
- Evaluate up to 25 logged plays you send in.
- Edit the footage in to a 2-3 minute highlight.
- Upload your footage to your recruiting profile.
- Inform you when your video is complete!
The highlight video for your NCSA Recruiting Profile is meant to attract initial interest and allow for initial evaluation. Coaches may still want to see you compete in person or view unedited video to fully evaluate your abilities.

- Cover Speed (In Coverage & Downfield), Recovery Speed (Chasing Down a Play)
- Away from the ball skills
- Linebackers should log:
- Solid Technique Tackles & Big Hits
- Pass Drops - Lateral & Vertical Footwork
- Pass Deflections, Tackles for Loss
- QB Pressures, Knockdowns, Sacks
- Gap Filling on Run Plays - Defeating the Block (OL & RB)
- Defensive Linemen should log:
- Solid Technique Tackles & Big Hits
- Forced Fumbles & Batted Passes
- QB Pressures, Knockdowns, Sacks
- Tackles for Loss, Defeating the Block (OL)
- DL Techniques - Swim Move, Spin Move, Bull Rush Technique, Rip Move
- Punters and Kickers should log:
- Skills footage and game footage
- Kickers:
- Film on a tripod 5 yards behind kicker and 2 yards to the side.
- Kickoffs should be from the 30 yard line.
- Punters:
- Film from stands just like normal game film.
- Follow ball after it is punted.
- Every Solid Punt (Best Distance and/or Hang time)
- All Punts Inside 20 and Beyond
- All Tackles Made
- Every Touchback KO
- Successful Onside Kicks (no more than 3 on one given DVD)
- All Successful Field Goals & 2-3 Successful PAT's
- Quarterbacks should log:
- Touchdown Passes
- Rushing Touchdowns
- Precision Passes - Hitting WR in stride
- Out Passes
- Deep Throws
- Quick Series Throws
- Scrambles
- 3 & 5 Step Drops - Footwork
- Option Style Running QB Highlights
- Wide Receivers should log:
- Touchdown Catches
- Great Fundamental Catches
- a)Sideline Catch
- b) In Traffic Catch

- e) Coming Back to the Ball Catch
- Running with the Ball - Proper Technique, Breaking Away
- Downfield Stalk Blocking, Crack Blocks

- Running Backs should log:
- All Touchdowns (Rushing & Receiving)
- Yards after Contact
- Breakaway Runs - Field Vision (Cutback Runs)
- Offensive Linemen should log:
- Solid Technique
- Good Footwork
- Low Pad Level
- Pulling Blocks
- Any Knock downs
- Long Snapper should log:
- Skills footage
- Film from 5 yards in front of snapper and few yards to the side
- Must have punter catching the snap.
- Also include side view to show technique.
