Hi! My name is Erica Reid and I will be graduating from Santana High School in 2018. Prior to high school I had never heard of field hockey. After graduating 8th grade, I attended my first summer field hockey workout, which was my first experience in high school. I didn’t know anyone and was really nervous. I knew that playing this sport would push me out of my comfort zone and force me to open up to new people.
While playing on the JV team my freshman year, I developed stick skills and created new relationships. Once my freshman field hockey season was over, I lettered on the varsity softball team that same year. At that time, I had played softball for 10 years, but quickly realized that I loved field hockey even more. It was something new, exciting, competitive, and required me to think and act quickly.
My sophomore year, I made the varsity field hockey team, and really began to push myself on the field. I mentored incoming freshman and encouraged them to play this new and exciting sport that I found just a year earlier. I received the 2015-16 Grossmont Conference All League Selection for Outstanding Achievement Award, and MVP from my team. In the winter, I played basketball for the first time, and received the Coach’s Award for Athletic Achievement, then continued on the varsity softball team for a second year, where I was honored with the 2015-16 Grossmont Conference All League Selection Honorable Mention for Base Running and the Hustle Award from my peers and coaches.
Over the summer of 2016, I had the privilege to participate in the Cal-Cup Field Hockey Tournament and received the MVP of our team for the entire weekend, which was a great way to start my summer.
As a junior, I was elected Co-captain of the varsity field hockey team by my peers, and continue to grow in my abilities as an individual both on and off the field.
Academically, my grades are most important to me. My dedication to studying has placed me a spot on the Honor Roll throughout my high school career. With each day that goes by, I continue to learn how to balance my faith/family, academics and sports. I am planning on studying business and I'm excited for college
I have narrowed down my college research and I am looking for a school that is medium-sized, has a strong business program, and is not on the east coast. I have been researching schools academically ,however, if I had the opportunity to go to a college where I can play field hockey and receive good academics, that would be a dream come true.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Respectfully,
Erica Reid
