Personal Statement

I began field hockey when I was in 3rd grade and have loved it from the first day I started in Wilton's Youth program.  I would ask my parents to take me to the turf on weekends to practice and watch our high school varsity games often.  I looked up to and admired the high school players and today it is a very unique experience to be on the other end of that.  I have also met some of my best friends by playing field hockey and I am grateful for that and being a part of such close teams.  The excitement of a team sport and competing is what makes me love field hockey and is why I am so determined to continue to play in college.

Playing field hockey also makes me a better student and keeps me very organized.  It has taught me how to manage my time and plan ahead. Being on a team has also given me an advantage when working in groups at school.  It has made me appreciate the importance of responsibility and accountability.

People who know me would describe me as kind, hard working, driven, and always smiling.  I like to learn from others and dream big.  I am not afraid to try something new and I surround myself with positive people that make me laugh.  Through playing field hockey I have learned the importance in believing in myself and having confidence.  Something that sets me apart from others is that I will not give up or stop until I know I am playing to the best of my ability constantly.  For example, when I go to the field or at practice I will never end on a poor shot or pass, I will keep saying "one more" until I end on a shot or pass that I am satisfied with and know is the best I can do.  I believe that setting these personal standards for myself have helped me to continue to grow and be consistent, setting me apart from others.

I set high goals for myself academically.  I am a High Honor Roll student (3.9 unweighted GPA) and my parents never have to push me.  I love Math and Science and like to take electives that are different like Ceramics and Marketing.

I am also a very dedicated and driven team player.  This year, I was only one of two underclassman that made Wilton High School's Varsity Field Hockey team.  I was proud to be a starting forward that contributed to the team's winning season and first FCIAC championship with 8 goals and 15 assists.  It is very exciting to score goals, but I most enjoy being a play maker.

I have been in NFCs for two years (U14 and U16) and love the intense and challenging level of play it offers.  My goal is to play competitive field hockey at a college with strong academics and a field hockey team that acts like a family.  I want to be lead by coaches who push each player on the team to be the best and really cares about the player off the field too.
