Personal Statement

As a Miami native, I grew up in an extremely diverse community; as the daughter of two Argentinian immigrants I had strong connections to a country, a world, much different from my own. Here, in Florida, field hockey is not exactly a commonplace sport. We may be home to one the most important tournaments in USA Field Hockey, yet no one here seems to know or understand what hockey is. I was fortunate enough to have grown up in an area locally known as "La Pequeña Buenos Aires"—Little Buenos Aires—where a small group of Argentinians decided to start up a hockey club and at the young age of 6 I was introduced to the sport everyone in Argentina loved. Throughout the years field hockey grew in Miami with about 4 clubs, and now people are finally starting to know what it means to be a field hockey player.

However, hockey wasn't the only thing heritage and location gave me. As I became older, I realized I want to make a difference around the world; that I wanted to go into diplomacy. I made the decision to attend Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial High School where I entered the Law Studies academy. This unique magnet program focuses on teaching students the aspects of law and legal procedure throughout all four years of high school. and has given me the opportunity to learn about law firsthand from experienced lawyers as well as take specialized college classes at Miami-Dade College which will allow me to graduate high school with a paralegal certification.

My goal is to attend a university that will help me grow in all aspects. I want to educate myself on the inner workings of the world and politics around me while also continuing my passion in field hockey and become the greatest player I can be. Hockey has always been an integral part of my life. Its helped me through my issues and it gave me the opportunity to make friendships I'll cherish forever.
