Personal Statement
For me, every single play of every single game is about elevating my play to the next level. Playing at the collegiate level would be a dream that makes every bruise and sore muscle worth the extra effort. It would be an honor to play at the collegiate level. It has always been my goal to be a leader on and off the field and to listen twice as much as I talk, this allows me to learn and adapt to every situation that comes along and I sincerely hope to gain more from my failures both on and off the field than I gain from my success. In 2014 I was given an amazing opportunity to travel abroad as a student ambassador with the People to People program, this experience truly opened my eyes to the world being much larger than my tiny space in it. Cultural immersion was a large part of this experience and I stayed with a family in Italy for several days, this experience showed me how differently people live in different parts of the world yet remain similar in many ways as well. This experience has made me a much more thoughtful, knowledgeable and open-minded individual, as well as led me to wishing to pursue a career in International Studies. My experiences, although on-going, have me ever evolving and adapting as well as striving to be a better player, student and global citizen. September 29 through October 4 I spent 6 days in Washington, DC attending the Envision National Youth Leadership Program on National Security. This forum took place with about 150 high school students from around the world, we were given a national security crisis and needed to work together with all government agencies to find solutions to this crisis. In addition, we met with agencies relative to our career choices, the choices were diplomacy, intelligence and defense. I choice diplomacy, and had great experiences learning more about how these agencies work together, I spent one day at the US Institute for Peace, met with staff from the State Department and was able to visit the Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC. This experience was fantastic and gave me great insight in to my chosen field of International Studies and realistic expectations. The forum also allowed me to develop and hone my leadership skills while I had the role of Secretary of State during my group's National Security Simulation.
