The first time I picked up a field hockey stick was in 7th grade, to play for a township recreation team. I loved the game so much that my parents enrolled me in clinics and camps, and I received private coaching to get me to the same level of competitive play as my peers. I was determined to improve my game, and it was frustrating at times when I felt my progress was slow, but the hard work paid off because 2 years later I made my high school's varsity field hockey team as a freshman.
I'm very passionate about field hockey, and strive to be both a better player and team mate. I have learned the values of teamwork, focus, dedication, and loyalty from my club and high school team experiences. These are valuable lessons to carry me through life both on and off the field. In striving to be a better player, I learned unique hockey skills at European camps in Barcelona and Amsterdam, where I was exposed to players and coaches from around the world. I expect to learn more in the summer of 2017 when I return to Amsterdam.
My ultimate goal is to be part of a college program that will challenge me both athletically and academically. I believe I have the talent and determination to make a positive impact on a college field hockey team.
Off the field and outside the classroom, I have been a Burlington County 4-H member for 10 years now, and I raise and show rabbits. I'm also an active volunteer for my county's clean parks program, and a fundraiser events volunteer for my prior grammar school. I am also a volunteer assistant coach for the Mercer County College field hockey summer program.
And on a side note, my 10 year old brother James has developed a love for the game. He made my club team, and it is a pleasure to practice with him and watch him develop into a better player.
