Personal Statement
My name is Maeve Gordon and I attend West Milford High School. I have been playing on the Varsity Field Hockey team for my High School for both Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior years. I was named Captain for my Senior year. I play Midfield and forward but I am willing to try other positions if needed. Coming into High School I was uncertain on whether I was going to try out for the Field Hockey or soccer team. Ever since I could walk I played soccer and it was something that would always put a smile on my face, I really enjoyed playing the sport. But in the fall of my eighth grade year I decided to pick up a stick and go out for the travel team. Making that decision to try a new sport was the best decision of my life. I met the most amazing girls who I now consider my family. Most importantly I realized that I never want to stop playing field hockey. Field hockey shaped me to be a better person it taught me how to be a team player and to always cheer on others and never put anyone down. It helped me understand people better and how to be more genuine and caring. I am a very coachable player in sports and am willing to try anything to become a better player. It would be incredible if I was able to play at a higher level.
In both sports and school I always strive to go above and beyond. I believe everything you do should be done at the best of your ability. I am always trying to do better in school and improve my grades and have a better knowledge of things. The church I attend is St. Joseph's and I volunteer for the food pantries and clothing drives to give back to my community. While I am furthering my studies I hope to still be able to be out on the field playing the sport I love. I am dedicated to anything I do and will always bring spirit to my team. I hope to have the opportunity to continue my field hockey career in college.
