Personal Statement
I started playing Field Hockey in 8th grade, and ever since then I became very passionate about the sport. The past two seasons(2017 & 2016) , my team, Myers Park High School won states. It was an amazing experience to have. Being on that team taught me how to work as hard as you possibly can, work well with teammates, and always have a positive attitude. Before games, I always get super serious...I think about all the things I need to do individually to help lead the team to success. I would love to continue my passion in college competitively, as I have a huge work-ethic, and hope to continue to work hard and get better every day.
Field hockey is not a sanctioned sport at my school or in my state. Until we won states this year, we were not even recognized by my high school. We have always had to practice and play games off campus because our school doesn't have space to accommodate us. We raise over $30,000 a year as a team to pay for field rentals, referees, uniforms, coach salary, etc, but we do it because we can't imagine not being able to play for our school. My high school team and club team is partnering with Queen's University (DIII) and will be using their new water based field (Bessant field) as our home field for our practices and games! I am proud to be part of the history of the evolution of field hockey in North Carolina and at Myers Park High School!
