Personal Statement
On a rainy game day, our high school team played against a competitor from Charlotte,
NC. With a tied score of 2-2, we had already passed two regulation overtimes and had gone into
shootouts. I remember standing on the fifty yard line as my teammates took their shots, and
feeling proud when I took my shot and made it into the goal. We won the shootout against our
competitor, and I will never forget the feeling of pride and joy that I felt after winning with my
team. As a field hockey player, I work to create an environment on and off the field where we
truly play as a team. After watching the seniors at my school, I gained valuable leadership skills
from the example they left behind, and I use these skills to encourage and support my teammates
on and off the field. As a field hockey player, I don't just practice a mentality of leadership and
responsibility on the field, I apply the lessons I have learned to all areas of my life, whether it be
athletics, academics, or personal community contributions. I believe in dedicating myself to my
commitments in sports, my rigorous academic schedule, and my community service work,
whether it be international or at home. I want to play in a field hockey program at the collegiate
level. My goal is to attend a college that will challenge me academically and prepare me for a
premed career path. I would like to have an even balance between academics and athletics, and I
will continue to pursue my interest in international mission work. My dedication to excellence in
my performance in school and on the field drives me to excel.
