Personal Statement

From the beginning I have dreamed of reaching the pinnacle of my field hockey career.  Endless hours of passion and dedication have brought me to where I am today.  This passion began at the early age of eleven. The sport  was fascinating to me and I caught on rather quick. My speed made me a versatile player on my middle school team and I was soon playing at a similar skill level  as girls two and three years older than me.  As my middle school days of field hockey were coming  to a close, playing in high school was a slim to none chance.  This was because the high school I chose to attend, Mill River Union High School, did not provide a field hockey program. However, this would not stop me from perusing my dream.  I contacted several schools in my district but not one would accept me, their responses were often brief and unfriendly.  I stayed positive and decided to contact the last school on my list, Otter Valley Union High School.  Within a day Otter Valley accepted me into their program with open arms, they were thrilled to include a player from another school.

I have now been playing at Otter Valley for three years and my team is more than just a team it's a family. I have grown extremely close with not only the team but with the school and community. Due to the support of Otter Valley and my dedication, my skill level has improved immensely and I will do whatever it takes to reach the peak of my potential. I believe that there is always room for improvement and there will always be a new goal to strive for.

Dedication on the field is as important to me as dedication in the classroom.  Although school work can be tedious, success in the class room comes before success on the field.  Trying my best with my studies is what will get me that success.  To me getting a great grade on a paper feels as rewarding as making a goal or winning a game. Without success in the classroom reaching the full potential of an athletic goal may not be possible.
