My name is John B. Gibbs IV. Everyone calls me “Drew.” My goals are to earn the privilege of attending college and to play college football. I have two older sisters currently attending college on primarily academic scholarships.
Academics are my first priority. My GPA as is 3.43 of January 15, 2015. I am preparing to take the SAT/ACT in the Spring of 2015.
I currently attend Soldotna High School. We are called the SoHi Stars. I live in Soldotna, Alaska on the world famous Kenai River.
I work at a local river fish camp every summer to help my parents pay for my travel to compete at camp and combines in and outside of Alaska. I’ve learned a lot about quality customer service, accountability and responsibility at the fish camp.
My parents have taught me that hard work always beats talent. I work hard every day in the classroom. I work hard every day in the gym and on the field. I work hard because I want to improve on the talent I may already have.
I'm currently 6'0" 215 lbs. I run a 4.7 40 yd. My bench is 275; squat 420; clean 275; and dead-lift 500. My vertical is 29.
I’m fortunate to travel outside of Alaska frequently to measure and develop my football skills against the top underclassmen in the nation. I recently competed in the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, TX Jan 1-3, 2015. I’m proud to be only one of the 500 underclassmen in the country invited to this event. Out of the 62 linebackers I consistently finished in the top 25% in measurable drills.
I have been honored with #1 Top LB at Golden Tate Camp Seattle, WA June 2013. I earned #1 Impact LB at Football University (FBU) in Seattle in 2014. I competed at FBU’s TopGun in July 2014 in Columbus, OH. I have also been named Top LB at the All-Alaska camp 2012, 2013, and 2014.
My high school career includes 2700 rushing yards with 50 touchdowns and a 10 yd per carry average.
As a high school Junior I was named the Alaska Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. I have earned All-State 1st Team honors on offense and defense for 2013-2014 as well as 2014-2015.
The Soldotna Star's Varsity football team has achieved a 29-1 record since my freshman year. I have helped my team tie the current state record of 29 consecutive victories. During our winning streak I have started both ways (RB/LB/CB) in every game I have played. I was a starter in our 3 consecutive victorious Alaska State Football Championships. I have scored a total of 5 touchdowns, (2) 2 point conversions, and 1 interception in those State championship games.
My athletics include Varsity football, track, and basketball. Football is my primary sport. I have been honored to start in every one of my high school’s Varsity football games since my freshman year. My coach is Galen Brantley Jr. I love him like a family member. I know that my success is directly tied to his year-round sacrifices to help me succeed on and off the field.
My name is Drew Gibbs. I proudly represent my family, school and community every day here in Alaska. I am a diligent and hard worker. I am a serious student athlete. I’m looking for a college that offers me the privilege and opportunity to grow and compete in exchange for my hard work.
