Personal Statement
My name is Alex M. Thomas and I am a senior at Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This is a very exciting year for me as I look towards my future. I am looking at colleges, careers, and reflecting upon what I want to do with my life. Such reflecting is certainly vital for those who would succeed in life. As I sat in church on Sunday, the pastor said that we can do all things through the power of God. And I thought: that is what I need to hear. For in addition to getting a degree, I would love to play college football and enjoy hearing my name and number called out again. Football has taught me a lot about life, I have learned how to win and lose with dignity. The discipline and hard work, the skills and drills, the early morning and late evening practices taught me so much. I learned perseverance and I learned about life. Being committed to the team gave me extra practice in being disciplined and decided. During the summer months, I attended several football camps at The University of Alabama where I was trained by some of the coaches and got to know some of the players. One of the Alabama coaches I worked with commented on my willingness to try every drill and stick to my assignments. He wrote some very nice remarks on my final camp evaluation. I even got a picture with Coach Sabin! I am really hoping to get some financial aid in college and playing football might help with that. It would sure be a blessing for me; but, most of all I want to do well in my studies and make good grades. I want to be a productive member of society who can reach out to my fellowman not say"gimmie" but "may I help you?"
