Hello, my name is Stephen McLeroy. I am from Oxford, AL. I am 6' 165 pounds. I am the starting kicker for my school Oxford High School. I started punting when the first string punter for two years, who is also the QB, sprained his ankle. The coached allowed me to punt for the rest of the season including our playoff games. This 2009 was my first year ever playing football. I was messing around after soccer practice one day and kicked a 30 yard field goal on my first try. Then, I thought, "I can do this." I tried out for the kicker position and made the team.
I played baseball my whole life until the seventh grade but had always wanted to play soccer. When I moved to Oxford, I tried out for JV and made the team. I could not play soccer and baseball at the same time. So, I chose soccer. I do not regret that decision. I have been playing soccer now for 3 years and starting on my 4th. If I had not decided to play soccer, I would not have been introduced to football. I would have missed playing a game that I love more than any sport I have ever played, and I have tried them all.
The best characteristic I have is that I never give up no matter what goes wrong. I practiced for hours trying to fix anything I was not safisfied with during games. My main goal is to keep getting better.
My next goal is to play college football at the highest level I can. I am looking for a challenge. I do my best under pressure. I kicked my first game field goal ever my first year under a great deal of pressure. The score was 20-20, our team did not score during the first OT period. So, I had to kick a field goal, and it was good. The other team kicked a field goal also. So, if I had missed, we would have lost the game right then. The coaches elected me as special teams captain and player of the week after that game.
I would love to play at either Alabama or Auburn, because I live in the area where all my life it was, "Are you an Alabama fan or Auburn fan." I would preferably want to go to a bigger school, because my high school is a 6A school. So, I have adapted to being around a lot of students. I would also like to go to a school where the sports program is very compeitive. But, what matters the most is getting a good education while playing a sport I love. So, I am willing to go where I am needed the most and where I can get an education in engineering or sports medicine.
If I am allowed to play football at a college level, I would want to start as a freshman. I would rather help my team win than to watch from the sidelines. But, being a part of the team would be gratifying as well.
