Personal Statement

I have been a quarterback since I was 6 years old.  As a quarterback, I have learned that you must be a strong leader, and that you must have a lot of confidence in your ability.  I do have a lot of confidence, but I have tried to lead by example, not by bragging.  I was taught by my family that "actions speak louder than words" and I believe that is true.  I could make a lot of statements about what I have done, or what I am going to do in college.  But my accomplishments are shown by academic record, my passing statistics, and my highlight video.

My proudest accomplishment is that our team went 12-2 this year and made it to the semi-finals of the Class 6A state playoffs in Alabama (which is the highest classification).  Alabama high school football is very competitive, and the playoffs were the most fun that my team and I have ever had in our lives.  We will never forget the way we came together fought for each win.  Now that our season is over, my goal is to play football at the next level and to compete against the best.  In college, I will give my best at all times, in class, and on the field, and I will make a positive contribution to my team and to the college I attend.

I have worked with a quarterback coach, David Morris, for 4 years, but I did not get the start at quarterback at my school until my Senior year. Therefore, up until now I have not been on the recruiting "radar."  I did not start earlier because there was a great player in front of me for 2 years who committed to Auburn University and graduated last year.  That gave me an opportunity.  Coach Morris, a former Ole Miss quarterback who runs QB Country, posted these descriptions of the situation on his Facebook page:

Junior Year: McGill-Toolen Quarterback Harry Satterwhite - Being a 2nd string QB is not glamorous. Being a 2nd string QB to one of the most dynamic Quarterbacks to come out of Mobile in a long time is even more humbling. Meet Harry Satterwhite. Harry is good enough to start at any school around town. Instead, he's waiting his turn behind Auburn commit, Jason Smith. 2 words to describe Harry. 1.) Humble 2.) Dependable. Every Quarterback must have those 2 ingredients. Harry has played a good bit, both as a Sophomore and this year as a Junior. And any McT Coach or player you ask about the 2nd string QB, all they talk about is how good he is and how much respect they have for him. Harry's biggest fan may be Smith....who brags on Satterwhite every chance he gets. The 6', 180 pounder's chance is coming....in the mean time, he's mastering patience ... which isn't a bad quality either. I'm lucky to coach Harry Satterwhite.

Senior Year: McGill-Toolen QB Harry Satterwhite had bigger shoes to fill than any player in Mobile & Baldwin County going into this year. Replacing last year's Mobile/Baldwin Player of the Year and Auburn commit Jason Smith would be intimidating to any QB. Smith was the most dynamic player to ever come out of McGill-Toolen. How would the Senior Satterwhite respond in only 1 year of starting? I'd say pretty darn good. 13 games into this season, Harry is now McGIll-Toolen's all time single season passing yards leader having thrown for 2,433 yards. He also holds the McGill-Toolen School record for single season Touchdown passes at 27. Not to mention, he has led McGill to a 12-1 record and the State Semi-final game against another QBC trained qb, sophomore Bradley Northcutt & Auburn. Congratulations Harry...couldn't be more proud of you!
